Tori Grdina – Final Project Pitch

Your Name: Tori Grdina

Your story format for this assignment:

__x___ Text (2 photos and/or graphics)

__x___ Video

_____ Audio slideshow

Your pitch (in one short paragraph):

For my final project I’ll be profiling the girl who was selected to play Clara in this year’s Nutcracker Ballet. Usually whoever is chosen has been dancing for a long time, and being in the Nutcracker takes a lot of time and effort, and it’s usually quite an accomplishment to be chosen – if nothing else – her face is up on the posters around Lincoln. I think whoever has been chosen this year likely has a great story behind their audition, leading role, and dance career.

Explain why this story is best told using this format.

I think text is often ideal for a profile, but the video component also adds to the visual element of dance, since it will be about a dancer and her performances.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific.

I haven’t quite decided how I will proportion the video and the text yet, I think that will depend on Clara and what she has to say. I could make the video about her, and the text about the Nutcracker, or I could keep the text as a profile on her, and keep the video short just to let the audience see her dancing and performing a little. It will sort of depend on what kind of story she has to tell.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

I plan on talking to Clara, I’m actually having a difficult time digging up her full name, since the cast list has not been posted on the website. Once I track her down, I’ll probably interview her family, friends in the show, fellow dancing friends, and maybe even her director or someone similar.
