Reineke: Video Story Pitch

Your Name:  Seanica Reineke
Your story format for this assignment:

_____ Text (2 photos and/or graphics)

__XX___ Video

_____ Audio slideshow

Your pitch (in one short paragraph): Lincoln High School has teamed up with the UNL Dance Department to provide a different PE class: Dance 101. This collaboration began last year with various UNL Dance students volunteering to go teach a class at the school. It was so popular, though, that they decided to keep it for this year. This is relevant because of how popular dance has become due to shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With the Stars and new dance as exercise phenomenons such as Zumba. I want to focus on what impact this has had on the school and the students taking the class, why the decision was made to keep the class this year, if they plan on keeping it next year, how the collaboration with the Dance Department happened, etc.

Explain why this story is best told using this format.

This is best as a video story because I can get the action of the kids dancing along with the UNL students teaching the class. With the amount of action involved with dance, video will be able to portray that best.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific.

I will have a variety of shots and angles during the class with the high school students learning moves, the teachers helping the kids get the moves and kids entering and getting ready for class. I will basically document an entire class.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

Amy Cariotto, LHS PE teacher and Dance 101 Supervisor: I will talk with her a lot about the details of how the class came about, the collaboration with the Dance Department, etc.

Susan Levine, Head of the UNL Dance Department: I will talk with her about the collaboration with LHS, why she feels it’s important for her students to be involved, etc.

LHS students in Dance 101: their thoughts about the class, what they’ve learned/gained or not

UNL students teaching Dance 101: what they have gained from the experience, their thoughts on the collaboration
