Your pitch (in one short paragraph):

For various reasons, students sometimes drop classes. I’m hoping to look into which classes are dropped most often, and why students don’t feel like they can finish those classes. I’m hoping to get this data from Registration and Records – they keep the information but may not have the time to compile it.

If they don’t have the time or are reluctant, I may narrow my focus to just the library class, which from anecdotal evidence may be one of the most dropped classes.

Explain why this story is best told using this format.

The story would include data and a lot of explaining, which is not overly visual and would not fit into a short audio or video story.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific.

The visual elements for this story would be the data and the graphs – there’s not a whole lot I can show in pictures with this story, so that’s why it’s a text story.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

Earl Hawkey is the director of Registration and Records, I can make an appointment with him or one of his assistant directors to talk about what data I can get and the background behind those numbers. I would also try to do an informal public opinion poll among students about them dropping classes and why they did it.
