Your story format for this assignment:

Your pitch (in one short paragraph):

It’s been said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But that many not be true when breakfast comes in a Styrofoam package through a drive-thru window.
University of Nebraska-Lincoln students can now order from an extensive breakfast menu items like hotcakes, scrambled eggs, sausages and hash browns from Burger King, McDonalds, Amigos, Arby’s and Subway – even from the Runza in the union.
And it’s not just UNL students who are chowing down. According to the Los Angeles Times, breakfast sales at all restaurants dropped 2.8 percent in 2009, but the industry was still worth $25.3 billion. More than 55 percent of breakfast restaurant sales are at a fast food restaurant.
It is unclear what is driving this menu change. Is it consumer demand or the anticipation of consumer demand, or both? Did restaurants like Subway and Arby’s fear losing market share to McDonald hotcakes and Burger King hash browns? Is it good for the body to start the day off with eggs, even if they come from Amigos?

Explain why this story is best told using this format.

This story has a lot of information and sources and is best fleshed-out to cover all the issues. In addition, some of the sources may not be able to be videotaped or photographed.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific.

I will utilize nutritional information alongside photos of the product to make compelling info graphics. I can also take pictures of the breakfast platters.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

UNL food science and nutrition professors (spoken with several already)
