Rich Schneider Text Story Pitch

Your Name: Rich Schneider
Your story format for this assignment:

__xx___ Text (2 photos and/or graphics)

_____ Video

_____ Audio slideshow

Your pitch (in one short paragraph): I am going to write an informal poll story to try and gauge people’s feelings on the upcoming elections.  In 2008 voter turnout and the involvement of young people was a huge story for the record breaking elections.  Political analysts are abuzz again for the midterm elections, but usually these have far less turnout then when there is a Presidential election involved.  I want to try and get a sense of UNL students as the elections near and try and gauge how many people will participate.

Explain why this story is best told using this format.

I believe that the number of sources required and the data that will be used in this story is best told using text.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific.

When I talk to people about whether or not they are going to participate in the upcoming elections I want to know why or why not, if they participated in 2008 and what makes this election different for them.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

I will obviously talk with students around campus but I also want to try and get an understanding about how much the get out and vote campaign means locally to show that I will talk to: UNL Young Democrats, UNL Law School Democrats, Republican Law Students, and College Republicans.  I also want to talk to people from the 3 representatives who are up for elections this November, ask them what they expect from young people this election and what they are doing to attract them.  Finally I want to get a hold of Republican and Democratic headquarters here in Nebraska.
