Jenna’s Video Pitch

Your Name:  Jenna Gibson
Your story format for this assignment:

____ Text (2 photos and/or graphics)
__X___ Video
_____ Audio slideshow

Your pitch (in one short paragraph):

Downtown bookstore Indigo Bridge Books holds weekly bilingual storytime hours. There, volunteers read books in Spanish and English to children. The desire to hold bilingual storytime events was actually the reason the owners decided to open Indigo Bridge a few years ago, as a way to open communication and foster cross-cultural learning and understanding.

Explain why this story is best told using this format.

I think this is a very visual story with strong audio. Rather than just describing the scene, video can capture the kids’ reactions as they listen to a volunteer reading to them in two different languages.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

Kim Coleman, owner of Indigo Bridge, or a manager

I will need to talk to someone who is in charge at the bookstore, ideally Ms. Coleman, to give me an idea of the vision behind the store, and why bilingual storytime was so important to them. This person will also be good to give me a general idea of how successful the program has been.

Parents who attend the reading

Before or after the event, I would ask the parents why they bring their children to Indigo Bridge for storytime, what they hope to get out of it and what their kids think about the experience.

Children

If possible I would like to talk to the kids also, although they might get camera shy. This would add some energy to the video, though, so it’s worth a shot.
