Lacey’s Video Pitch 9/29

Your Name:  Lacey Mason
Your story format for this assignment:

_____ Text (2 photos and/or graphics)

x  Video

_____ Audio slideshow

Your pitch (in one short paragraph):

I want to cover a story on Duffy’s open mic comedy night.  On Monday nights, comedians from around Lincoln and neighboring towns come to Duffy’s to perform routines and participate in improv.  Comedy night not only provides Lincoln with something fun to do at night, but is a venue for new talent to be discovered, and some comedians have even had opportunities to perform in other clubs.  I want to share the story of this unique Lincoln event.

Explain why this story is best told using this format.  Comedy is extremely visual.  The tone of Duffy’s, the way the comedians interact with the audience and their dynamics when responding to interview questions.

How will you tell this story visually? Please be specific.

I will have shots in and outside of Duffy’s to set the mood.  I will have shots of comedians interacting with each other and on stage doing their stand-up.  There will be shots of the bar tenders working as well as audience members enjoying the show and laughing.

List the names and titles of the sources (both those you have talked with already and those you plan to talk to) and describe what role they will play in the story.

I have talked with Matt Kouba who has been performing at Duffy’s for about a year.

I have an interview set up for Saturday with Richard Reese who is often the MC for the comedy nights and has been performing there for a couple of years.

I have an interview set up for Monday with Scott Hatfield, the owner of Duffy’s.

I also plan on talking with patrons when I actually go to film.
